Tuna Sandwich Font for Web Design Projects

I was working on a new boutique online store for a local artisan who sells handcrafted candles and skincare products. The goal was to create a brand experience that felt warm, inviting, and a little playful. After exploring several typefaces, I decided to test Tuna Sandwich in the hero section of the homepage.

Tuna Sandwich is a display font with a whimsical and friendly character. It has rounded edges, soft curves, and a slightly uneven baseline that gives it an authentic, hand-drawn feel. This kind of personality can be perfect for brands looking to communicate creativity, approachability, and charm.

When I applied Tuna Sandwich to the main headline, "Handmade with Love," it immediately brought a sense of warmth to the design. The font didn't feel too formal or corporate, which matched the brand's voice perfectly. However, I had to be careful with how much I used it. Display fonts like Tuna Sandwich are best reserved for headlines, banners, and decorative elements rather than body text.

One of the first things I noticed was how well Tuna Sandwich performed on mobile screens. Even at smaller sizes, the characters remained legible and didn't become too cramped. That’s a big plus when designing for responsive layouts. I also tested it against dark and light backgrounds to ensure good contrast. On a light background, the font stood out beautifully, while on darker tones, it still maintained enough visibility without needing additional effects.

For the product pages, I paired Tuna Sandwich with a clean sans serif font for the body copy. This combination created a nice balance between playfulness and readability. The contrast helped guide the user’s eye from the attention-grabbing headline down to the detailed descriptions, making the content easier to scan and digest.

Another place where Tuna Sandwich shone was in the call-to-action buttons. When I used it for phrases like "Shop Now" or "Explore Our Collection," it added a friendly touch that encouraged interaction. It wasn’t over the top, but it did make the buttons feel more personable and less robotic.

I also experimented with using Tuna Sandwich in blog headers and promotional banners. It worked particularly well for seasonal campaigns or limited-time offers. The font’s quirky nature made those sections stand out, helping them catch the viewer’s attention quickly.

Of course, I made sure to check the font’s technical specifications before finalizing the design. Tuna Sandwich comes with multiple styles, weights, and alternates, giving me flexibility in how I used it across different sections of the site. It also supports multilingual characters, which is important if the website plans to expand to other markets in the future.

When considering commercial use, I verified that the font has proper licensing for web use, including embedding in websites, client projects, and digital templates. This ensured that I could confidently use it without any legal concerns.

Font pairing is always a key consideration in web design, and Tuna Sandwich proved to be a great match for both modern and traditional layouts. For a more editorial look, I paired it with a serif font for the body text. For a contemporary feel, I used a sleek sans serif font instead. Either way, the contrast helped establish a clear visual hierarchy and improved the overall reading experience.

One thing I learned through this process is that even though Tuna Sandwich is a display font, it needs to be used thoughtfully. It works best when it’s not competing with other elements on the page. Keeping it as a primary headline font and limiting its use to short phrases ensures that it enhances the design rather than distracts from it.

Overall, Tuna Sandwich added a unique and memorable touch to the online store. It helped reinforce the brand’s personality and made the design feel more cohesive and intentional. If you're looking for a display font that brings a sense of fun and authenticity to your digital projects, Tuna Sandwich is definitely worth testing in your next design.
